AIEE is an independent institute founded in 2014 and based at Herengracht 450, 1012 RJ Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Our purpose is to strengthen evidence-based policy on energy systems and the economies they shape — for Dutch ministries, EU institutions, utilities, and international research partners.
Leadership & governance
AIEE is governed by a Board of Directors and an Academic Council. The Board holds fiduciary responsibility, approves the strategic plan, and oversees financial sustainability. The Academic Council is responsible for research standards, programme integrity, and scholarly independence. Day-to-day management sits with the Executive Director, supported by a senior leadership team including the Director of Research, Director of Programmes, and Chief Operating Officer. Governance documents and committee papers are published for the AIEE community as they are updated each year.
Location & facilities
AIEE is based at Herengracht 450, 1012 RJ Amsterdam, a short walk from the Dutch government district and ministries along the canals. This central Amsterdam location enables close engagement with policymakers, the Dutch civil service, and visiting dignitaries and researchers from across the world. We also maintain a presence in Rotterdam and The Hague for collaborative research, teaching, and engagement activities. Our facilities include seminar and workshop spaces, a specialist policy research library, and video-conferencing infrastructure for working with international partners.

The public faculty and staff directory lists academic, research, and professional services colleagues by cluster and unit. General enquiries about joining AIEE as a researcher, fellow, or staff member can be directed through contact.
Research community & giving
Graduates and former fellows remain part of the AIEE community through mentoring, events, and professional networks. The development office works with community members who wish to support fellowships, research initiatives, and early-career researcher funds. Enquiries about giving and volunteering are welcome through the main contact channels.
Legal information
Key legal documents for AIEE — including the constitution, financial statements, and annual reports — are published on request and updated each year. Regulations governing programme participants, academic appeals, and conduct are available to enrolled participants through the relevant programme materials. For formal contractual or pre-action correspondence, please use the registered office address and the Chief Operating Officer as published in the latest annual report.
Privacy
AIEE processes personal data for research, education programmes, employment, community relations, and operations in line with the AVG (GDPR) and Dutch data-protection law. Full privacy notices for programme applicants, participants, staff, visitors, and research participants are published separately and kept under review. Enquiries including access to information requests may be directed to dpo@aiee.nl.
Accessibility
We aim to provide an inclusive environment for researchers, programme participants, staff, and visitors. Reasonable adjustments to programme delivery, assessment, and physical access are arranged with programme administration and the relevant team leaders. Modern slavery
AIEE publishes an annual transparency statement on responsible procurement and supply-chain diligence, in line with Dutch and EU expectations for human-rights and labour standards in public and institutional contracting. Due diligence covers procurement categories with elevated risk, staff training, and escalation procedures when concerns arise.
Suppliers
Suppliers work with AIEE under clear terms covering payment, insurance, data protection, and ethical standards. Tender opportunities are advertised in line with institutional procurement rules. New vendors are expected to meet the supplier code of conduct and, where relevant, sustainability and modern slavery requirements.
